Social & Welfare

Nida Trust Social & Welfare department has the following projects in progress:

Nida Trust’s Social & Welfare section is involved in a variety of local community projects that aim to encourage harmony, diversity and understanding. As an organisation, one of our main aims is to encourage different communities to work together for the betterment of our society as a whole.

Our social & welfare work falls under three main categories. They include working with:

  • Various communities to establish community focus projects such as citizenship projects to enable isolated communities to integrate more easily with the wider society.
  • Faith groups to establish strong inter – faith relationship with each other.
  • Both statutory and voluntary organisations to establish projects that will break barriers between communities, thereby creating a more harmonious environment.

Our social & welfare work will focus on the following areas:

  • The general community - these projects will aim to develop more awareness of the needs of various communities to the general public. Projects will be developed to create a more religious and culturally harmonious community.
  • Educational institutions – these projects will aim to address the needs of educators so that they are better informed in educating pupils from the different communities (particularly from the Muslim community).
  • Public sector services – these projects will aim to provide the workers of these institutions with knowledge and skills so that they are able to provide a better service to their users.

1. One Voice

Due to current domestic and International situations, it is vital for all of us to learn to understand and get to know each other. Often, conflicts occur as a result of us not doing enough to learn about each other’s views and the cultures.

In today ‘s world, we see wars, terrorism, and many other ills that affect the civilians. We spend very little time in discussing with people from other communities of our culture and beliefs. It is for this very reason we see that some people are ignorant of others.

It is time that we begin to discuss with each and share our similarities and learn to respect our differences. One Voice is a project designed to do just that. The format of this is set in the Question time format where representatives from various faiths sit on the panel to address the questions from the audience.

2. Proactive action – Community Leadership Course

Good quality leaders and role models is a significant factor that contributes to the welfare of a given community. It is vital that we train leaders up to take up the challenge of taking their respective communities to a better level. Having a good leader is a very productive thing that can act as a role model for the rest of the community.

We find that in the UK, there are many communities who have settled in recently and lack the know – how and proper leadership in order for them to be more organized so that they contribute more productively to the nation. It is therefore, essential for us to train and develop them so that they can become more beneficial to the wider communities.
