Nida Trust education department has the following projects in progress:

At Nida trust, we focus on professional development of educators and anyone who may be involved in educating young people. The main aims of our work in education are:

  • To provide professional development training to school teachers and leaders, in order to enhance teaching and learning.
  • To provide consultancy and support to schools in developing and enhancing their institutions to help them provide high quality education to their respective communities.
  • To provide support to supplementary schools, and help them continue to provide effective service to their communities, thereby raising standards.
  • To work closely with governmental and non – governmental organisations to provide good quality educational services to all.

We focus on three main areas in education:

  • Professional Development – Nida Trust runs Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses for classroom teachers, middle managers and head teachers at both primary and secondary schools. The courses include:
    • General Teacher’s Training Course (GTTC),
    • Primary Teacher’s Training Course (PTTC),
    • Specialised Subject Forums,
    • Head Teacher’s Training Course (HTTC),
    • Specialised school INSETs,
    • Ongoing consultancy and mentoring services
  • Supplementary Education – Nida Trust provide support to supplementary schools through specialised INSETs and consultancy services.
  • Educational Awareness – Nida Trust runs seminars, workshops, conferences and consultancy services to promote education amongst the Muslim and ethnic minority communities.

1. General Teachers Training Programmes (GTTC)
Nida Trust hopes to continue providing a broad range of Professional Development opportunities for teachers. Topics will be specialised, and will be delivered by external experts who are qualified and experienced in their specific fields. Topics will include:

  • Delivering the Arabic and Islamic Curriculum.
  • Planning for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Planning for EAL (English as an Additional Language) pupils.
  • Preparing for an Ofsted Inspection.
  • Islamicizing the National Curriculum.
  • Monitoring & Assessment for Learning
  • Lesson planning
  • Behaviour Management
  • Natioanl Curriculum

2. Specialised INSET days ( Booking Form )
These sessions will be exclusively delivered by Nida Trust trainers and will address the main topics that are usually delivered in a conventional teacher’s training course. These INSET days will be booked on a first come first serve basis and will be closed to the school that makes the booking. Topics will include:

  • Effective Lesson Planning & Target Setting
  • Classroom Management & Dealing with challenging behavior.
  • Learning Styles & Effective Learning.
  • Monitoring & Assessment for Learning

3. Curriculum Support Meetings
This is an opportunity for subject teachers to speak with specialist trained teachers in their specific fields. Specialists from Primary Schools and Secondary Schools will present in the areas of English, Maths, Science, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Business Studies/Economics, Arabic and Islamic Studies.

4. Primary Teacher Training Course
Nida Trust is building a network of experienced primary teachers to provide support to schools as well as offer these two sessions specifically for Primary School teachers. They will concentrate on issues that are of concern to teachers and administrators of younger pupils.

5. Consultancy/Mentoring Service ( Booking Form )
This is where qualified and experienced teachers from ALL subjects will be recruited to provide subject specific mentoring and consultancy to Muslim school teachers nationwide. The service will be available to all Muslim schools which have particular needs that have to be addressed. This will involve providing support for curriculum development, pupil behaviour management, leadership and management, and community relations. Schools face challenges in all these areas, and we hope that our experienced teachers can provide this support. We hope that this service will provide an invaluable support structure for Muslim teachers nationwide who will be able to email/telephone a suitable Nida Trust registered mentor nearest to them, to immediate help and support.

6. National Education Conference
This is an annual event where educationist from both the statutory and the independent sectors get together to share ideas and good practice. It also concentrates on national issues and how educational institutions can work together to improve the provision of education to young people.

7. Head Teachers Training Course
This programme caters for Head Teachers from both the Independent and the state sectors. The training will focus on a range of educational topics that will enable the head teachers to deliver and plan educational programmes effectively in their respective schools in order to ensure that those pupils who are underachieving are catered for. Furthermore, this programme will focus on the community cohesion issues.

8. Supplementary Schools Support Service
Supplementary or complementary schools are set up by various communities to help raise the educational, cultural and spiritual awareness of the community. Research suggests that Supplementary schools provide an invaluable support structure in helping to achieve better.

Nida Trust has a comphrensive support programme for the supplementary schools. They include:

  • Assisting them with writing various policies
  • Teacher training and development
  • Monitoring systems

9. Certified Courses
Along with all the other courses, Nida Trust will aim to provide certified courses that will lead to QTS (qualified teaching status). The Trust is in discussion with a number of further education institutes to get the courses accredited.
